 | | | | To French Guiana from Paramaribo | | | | | |
From Paramaribo we made a trip into French Guiana in the following way: (1) By taxi from Paramaribo to Albina. (2) Crossing Marowijne River to Saint-Laurent du Maroni. (3) Hiring a car at St.Laurent. We found that you cannot take a rented car from Suriname into French Guiana, the insurance is not valid. Taxi's to Albina leave from Waterkant between Heiligenweg and Jodenbreestraat, starting at 6 am. You may just walk up there and hop in, or order them to pick you up at your hotel at a future date. (In that case take their HP number, they are not too punctual!). The fare is SRD 30, but at that rate they will only depart when full. If you are in a hurry, you have to pay for the empty places. Travel time to Albina is 2 hours. The taxi will take you to the river bank, where small boats leave, or to the jetty of the car ferry. At the car ferry (see photo's with fare and schedule) you have to pass customs. It is easier and faster to take a small boat. The fare is SRD 10, you just hop in at any time, they leave as soon as there are enough passengers. But be sure you have a passport/visa valid for French Guiana and a multiple entry visa for Suriname, just in case you run into a officer of the law. The boat will drop you off at the southern end of town, not far from Rue Hector Riviérez, where ADA car rentals are situated. Theme: Other
