One of the best features of VirtualTourist is the friendship that thousands of people have formed. Many people form important bonds and learn about different cultures and places from their VT friends. In any given month, hundreds of VT members are getting together around the globe. VT has even seen lots of weddings.

It all starts by making someone your friend. Adding someone tor your Friends List sends a notice to the person you're interested in and let's them know you've added them. If they choose to also add you to their Friends List, you'll both be able to see when the other person is online.

Typically people add each other to their Friends List only after they have exchanged emails, or helped each other in the forum. Some people have very full Friends Lists and might be reluctant to add more folks unless they get to know them well. In any case, not being added to a Friends List doesn't mean the person doesn't like you, it just means they might have a different idea of what it means to be on a Friends List

All you have to do is click the link "Add as Friend" near the person's member picture. They will recieve a notice showing that you've added them. If they decided to also add you to their list, then you'll both be able to see when each other is online.

You can see someone's online status in your Friends List only if they have also added you to their list.

If they have added you, you will see a flower with a smiley face symbol to indicate that they are online.

The person will not be notified, but they could notice that they your online status is no longer visible to them from their Friends List.

Yes. You may have a maximum of 255 people on your friends list at one time. Huge friends lists create strain on VT servers. They slow down service and decrease performance of the website. You can always see who's online by clicking 'Members Online' at any time! Also please note that not having someone of your Friends List only means you won't see their online status directly from the Friends List. You'll still be able to write to each other, make friendships, and keep in touch as usual.

You can't prevent someone from putting you on their list, but unless you add them to your list too, they won't know your online status.

The blinking red triangle indicates the someone from your Friends List has just come online. Remember that you must be on the person's Friends List in order for you to be alerted when they come online.
